What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, is a new way for people with disabilities under the age of 65 to get the care and support they need.
The program is designed for individuals with permanent and significant disabilities that affect their everyday participation. If you're eligible, the NDIS will provide funding for the support and services you need.
Who is Eligible for the NDIS?
To access the NDIS, you'll need to meet these five main requirements.
Location
You must live in an area where the NDIS has been rolled out. The scheme is now available across Australia.
Age
You must be under 65 years old at the time you apply to access the NDIS.
Residency
You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen with a Protected Special Category Visa.
Disability
You must have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to communicate, move, care for yourself, or manage your life.
Early Intervention
You may also be eligible if early intervention support would help reduce your future support needs and improve your functioning.
What Does the NDIS Fund?
The NDIS provides funding for lots of different things! It could be employment support, early intervention, accommodation, activities, and more. As a participant, you get to decide when, where, and which providers deliver your supports.
